Genuine handwoven sarees at the entry end of our range — mostly Kota Banarasi and handloom cotton from Assam and Bengal.

What you can and cannot expect at this price

Being direct about it is more useful than being vague. Under ₹2,500 buys you real handloom — woven by a person, on a loom, with woven rather than printed patterning. What it does not buy is dense ornamentation or high-grade silk. A Kota Banarasi at ₹1,550 has real woven zari, but the zari coverage is light and the base is cotton, not silk. That is an honest trade, and for daily and daytime wear it is often the better one anyway.

Be sceptical of anything advertised as a "pure silk handloom saree" at this price elsewhere. The yarn cost alone makes it impossible. What is usually being sold is art silk — polyester — with a handloom-sounding name.

What these are good for

Daily wear, workwear, daytime functions and the Indian summer generally. Cotton and Kota Doria are the most comfortable things you can wear in heat, and at this price you can own several and rotate them — which is genuinely better for the cloth than wearing one repeatedly.

Care

Dry clean once to set the colour, then hand wash cold, separately for the first few washes. Dry in shade. Iron on medium while damp.
