Our most worked pieces — premium linen and tissue with hand appliqué and embroidery worked over the base cloth.
What separates these
Two things: the base fabric and the hand-work on top of it. Hand appliqué means each shape is cut and stitched down individually rather than printed or machine-embroidered — the difference is visible up close and it is where the hours go. Tissue is a sheer, lustrous base woven with fine metallic thread, which makes it dressier than anything else we carry in unstitched form.
These are the sets to have made up for weddings, receptions and the occasions where you want the outfit to register.
Getting them stitched
Take an embroidered or appliqué length to a tailor you have used before. Hand-worked fabric needs the pattern placed around the existing motifs rather than cut through them, and a tailor who has not handled it will not think to ask. There is no second length if it goes wrong.
Allow three weeks minimum from order to wearable — dispatch is 1–2 working days, delivery 3–7, and stitching a worked piece properly takes longer than a plain one.
Care
Dry clean only. Appliqué and embroidery will not survive hand washing, and tissue is fragile. Iron on low on the reverse, never directly over the work. Store folded in cotton or muslin with a change of fold lines every few months.
